Winter Roads

Minister Rickford announced that the government is investing $8 million to help remote First Nation communities build and operate 3,200 kms of temporary winter roads for the 2022-23 season.

This multi-year funding commitment will support the delivery of essential goods and services, special projects, like bridge improvements and other repairs, and allow for individuals to travel between communities to participate in cultural event. The network is typically accessible for approximately six to 11 weeks per year, although the winter roads season has become more variable due to changing weather patterns.
