The Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act
The government introduced The Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act, which would, if passed, ensure the province’s public education system focuses on what matters most: important, life-long skills like reading, writing, and math. The act will also ensure accountability and transparency for parents and families.
We are challenging the status quo. Right now, Ontario’s 72 school boards set their own priorities, creating inconsistencies in student outcomes across the education system. That includes some school boards consistently underperforming without a clear plan to improve, lengthy delays to build schools, and an unacceptably long certification process for educators.
This overhaul of Ontario’s education system is designed to refocus school boards on what matters most – strong proficiency in reading, writing, and math – while enhancing accountability and effectiveness of school boards.
The government will continue to ensure students graduate with a competitive advantage, supported by an increase of over $690 million for the next school year and the hiring of nearly 2,000 additional educators focused on boosting literacy and math skills.
