Province Expanding Hydroelectric Energy Across Northern Ontario
The Ontario government has announced a $2 billion investment to refurbish and expand hydroelectric generating stations across Northern Ontario. This transformative initiative, led by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in partnership with Andritz Hydropower Canada, will secure 830 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity—enough to power 830,000 homes—and create over 1,000 good-paying jobs in Northern Ontario.
This bold investment will provide affordable, reliable, and clean energy to support Ontario’s growth while ensuring families and businesses have the power they need to thrive.
