Ontario’s Plan to Build Mines Faster Attracts Billions in Additional Mining Investment

Today, the government announced a $14 billion investment by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (Agnico Eagle) — representing one of the largest mining investments by a Canadian company in Canada’s history and one of the most significant private-sector commitments in modern Ontario history.

This landmark investment will support more than 5,700 good-paying jobs across the province while strengthening Ontario’s mining and critical minerals supply chain and reinforcing northern Ontario as a globally competitive destination for investment and responsible resource development. The investment signals strong global confidence in Ontario’s accelerated permitting regime as the province emerged for the first time as Canada’s number one and the world’s number two top jurisdiction for mining investment.

Our government’s plan to protect Ontario is strengthening economic self-reliance, accelerating responsible development and building resilient made-in-Ontario supply chains to create good-paying jobs and secure Ontario’s place as the mining and critical minerals capital of the G7.
