Ontario Students Going Back-to-Basics with Fewer Distractions This Fall
Jill Dunlop, Minister of Education will be making a back-to-school announcement highlighting the government investment of $47.5 million to support the implementation of new rules to counter the negative impact of cell phones, social media and vaping on student achievement, mental health and well-being. These tough new measures are intended to remove distractions, improve student outcomes and promote healthy decision making among students.
This investment includes $15 million to provide supports for students at risk of addictive behaviours, $1 million to partner with School Mental Health Ontario to develop webinars/resources on the adverse affects of vaping/excessive cellphone usage and $1.5 million to Parent Involvement Committees to run grassroots prevention campaigns.
