Ontario Secures Agreement to Advance World’s Largest Nuclear Generating Station
February 12, 2026
The Government has announced that Ontario Power Generation has signed a partnership agreeent with the Municipality of Port Hope to advance new nuclear generation at the Wesleyville site, supporting the development of the world’s largest nuclear generating station.
The agreement includes $4.5 million in growth-readiness funding to support Port Hope’s preparation for a new nuclear project. Early assessments show the Wesleyville site could support up to 10,000 megawatts of new nuclear generation — enough to power the equivalent of 10 million homes. This nation-building project is expected to contribute approximately $235 billion to Ontario’s GDP over its lifespan and support 10,500 jobs across the province.
This project delivers on our government’s plan to protect Ontario, because nuclear is built by Canadian workers and suppliers.
