Ontario Marks Completion of Darlington Unit 1 Refurbishment Project Five Months Ahead of Schedule

Today, Ontario announced the completion of the refurbishment of Unit 1 at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station five months ahead of schedule. The unprecedented achievement of refurbishing this unit provides Ontario with 875 megawatts (MW) of reliable, affordable, and clean power for the next 30-plus years, enough to power 875,000 homes.

This marks a significant milestone in the province’s plan to tackle soaring energy demand. Unlike the Liberals, who started and stopped the Darlington Nuclear Station, our government has a clear plan to expand non-emitting nuclear power in Ontario.

The completion of the Darlington refurbishment unit on-time and on-budget serves as a rare reminder of Ontario’s global competitive advantage, as we export SMRs and nuclear energy around the world.  Our PC government is building for the future — securing affordable and clean energy for the next 25 years as energy demand soars by 75% by 2050
