Ontario Invests in Next Generation of Canadian Mines

Ontario is investing up to $10 million through a newly enhanced Ontario Junior Exploration Program (OJEP), including a new Advanced Exploration Stream, to help prospectors and junior mining companies discover the mines of the future and strengthen Ontario’s critical minerals supply chain.

This investment will support early-stage mineral exploration and development projects across northern Ontario by helping prospectors and mining companies offset high upfront exploration costs and unlock new economic opportunities in the North. Ontario currently leads Canada in exploration spending and to date, OJEP has committed nearly $45 million in funding to 280 companies – 201 of them exploring for critical minerals; leveraging over an additional approximate $80 million in investment from industry.

Ontario’s plan to protect Ontario is strengthening economic self-reliance, accelerating responsible resource development and building resilient made-in-Ontario supply chains to create good-paying jobs and position Ontario as the mining and critical minerals capital of the G7.
