Ontario Investing $57 Million to Support Indigenous Postsecondary Institutes’ Long-Term Success and Sustainability

April 16, 2026

The government is making a historic $57 million investment to strengthen Indigenous Institutes and expand access to education that leads to in-demand economy-driving jobs.  This investment will bring operating funding for Indigenous Institutes to over $50M per year by 2029, the highest in Ontario’s history. This investment is part of our $6.4B new funding model for the postsecondary sector that we announced in February of this year, bringing long-term sustainability to our colleges, universities and Indigenous Institutes.

As Indigenous youth continue to represent the fastest-growing segment of our workforce, this investment ensures they have access to a high calibre, Indigenous-led education that prepares them for rewarding careers while building the skilled workforce driving our economy.
