
The government has announced a historic $1.7 billion investment to fund 70,000 more postsecondary seats in in high-demand sectors such as health care, STEM, education and skilled trades at publicly assisted colleges and universities across the province. This investment is part of our government’s historic $6.4 billion new postsecondary funding model that will protect students’ access to the education they need to launch successful careers and good-paying, in-demand jobs, and ensure Ontario has the workforce it needs to support the most competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy in the G7.
Since launching the new funding model in February, our government has invested $975 million to fund 30,000 more seats in in-demand programs like STEM, health care, and education. Today, Minister Quinn launched a call for proposal to fund 40,000 new seats in programs tied directly to regional labour market needs. Backed by a $730 million investment, today’s announcement brings the total to 70,000 newly funded seats and $1.7 billion invested in higher education.
