Ontario Increasing Funding to Boost Reading, Writing, and Math

The government is increasing Core Education Funding for the coming school year by $745 million compared to 2023-24. Together with other investments, this represents $29 billion in total education funding and the largest investment in Ontario’s education system.

Premier Ford’s back-to-basics agenda is being supported through new investments to hire 900 specialized literacy and math educators, along with funding the reading screening of all young children, as well as expanded co-op and skilled trades learning.

Our government also unveiled a transformed education formula, eliminating the bureaucratic language designed for technocrats that had not been restructured since the 1990s. By rebranding the former Grants for Student Needs to the new: Core Education Funding, our government strengthened transparency, removed discretion in how boards allocate those dollars, and made it easier for parents in plain language to understand how public funds are used – streamlining the funding model by 60%, from 18 grants down to 6 pillars.

Ontario’s Plan will support getting back-to-basics, as we build more schools, faster.
