Ontario Expands Largest Competitive Energy Procurement in Province’s History

The government has announced the expansion of the largest competitive energy procurement in the province’s history.

This critical initiative increases the procurement target from 5,000 MW to 7,500 MW, a 50 per cent boost, ensuring Ontario’s electricity grid keeps up with soaring energy demands, which is projected to rise by 75 per cent by 2050.

This procurement will deliver affordable energy for the homes we are building, major international investments, and Ontario’s electrifying economy. As part of our all-of-the-above approach, this process protects rural farmland, promotes Indigenous partnerships, and requires community support for projects.
