The government has announced the record-setting successful completion and return to service of Bruce Power’s Unit 3 reactor refurbishment more than seven months ahead of schedule. This achievement will save ratepayers $150 million and marks another major milestone in Ontario’s plan to secure the reliable, affordable and clean power needed to support growth and meet rising electricity demand.
Once at full power, the refurbished reactor will provide more than 800 MW of electricity for over 35 years — enough to power more than 800,000 homes. The project is part of Bruce Power’s broader Life-Extension Program, which supports approximately 27,000 jobs across Ontario, contributes $4 billion annually to the provincial economy and will extend the operating life of the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station through 2064.
