Ontario Delivers Darlington Refurbishment Project Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget
February 2, 2026
The government is proud to announce the completion of construction on the refurbishment of Darlington Unit 4, returning the unit to service four months ahead of schedule, with the overall project delivered $150 million under budget.
With Unit 4 complete, all four units at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station have now been refurbished, marking the successful completion of the world’s largest completed nuclear refurbishment project. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has approved the unit to enter the initial power testing phase, expected to begin on February 12, with the unit returning to full power shortly thereafter.
Built by Canadian workers and suppliers, this nation-building project delivers on our government’s plan to protect Ontario by strengthening the province’s clean energy advantage and ensuring families and businesses have access to reliable, affordable, emission-free electricity for decades to come.
