Ontario Continuing to Protect Workers and Unlock Free Trade Within Canada in 2026
December 31, 2025
As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and strengthen its economic resilience, the province is bringing into force historic labour mobility and free-trade regulations that break down interprovincial barriers for workers and businesses.
Starting January 1, 2026, new “As of Right” labour mobility regulations will allow Canadians in certified professions to begin working in Ontario within 10 business days, once credentials and requirements are confirmed by the applicable Ontario regulator. These changes will help employers fill critical roles faster, support workers moving between provinces and strengthen Ontario’s economic competitiveness.
