Ontario Building New Long-Term Care Beds in Penetanguishene
It was my sincere pleasure to join Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care, and dignitaries Doug Leroux, Mayor of Penetanguishene and George Cornell, Warden of Simcoe County to announce new bed allocations for Georgian Manor in Penetanquishene.
As MPP for Simcoe North, I am so pleased that in addition to several other long-term care projects underway in Simcoe County, the government is creating an additional 16 beds at Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene. Today’s announcement makes for a total of 1,271 new and upgraded care beds created, planned, or in development across our region, as a part of our government’s $6.4 billion investment in long-term care in Ontario.

Ontario Building New Long-Term Care Beds in Penetanguishene
Ongoing investments in new projects will protect our progress by bringing much-needed
beds to the province
SIMCOE COUNTY — The Ontario government is adding 16 new long-term care beds to Georgian
Manor Home for the Aged in Penetanguishene. This is part of the government’s $6.4 billion
commitment to build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care
beds across the province.
“Our government has a plan to fix long-term care and a key part of that plan is building modern,
safe, and comfortable homes for our seniors,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care.
“When the expansion of Georgian Manor Home for the Aged is complete it will be a place for local
seniors to call home, near their family and friends in Penetanguishene.”
With this allocation of 16 new beds, plus a previous allocation of three new beds, Georgian Manor
Home for the Aged in Penetanguishene will have a total of 162 long-term care beds. This home is
part of a campus of care which helps integrate long-term care homes into the broader health care
system and ensures residents have access to the care they need. Construction on the new beds is
expected to start by fall 2022.

region, as a part of our government’s $6.4 billion investment in long-term care in Ontario.”
There are now 693 new and 578 upgraded long-term care beds in development, under construction
or completed in the Simcoe County, including the following projects:
• The 16 new beds announced for Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene today, plus 3 new
beds previously allocated to this home;
• 51 new and 109 upgraded beds at The Villa Care Centre in Midland;
• 160 new beds at Saint Mary’s Care Centre in Orillia;
• 68 new and 60 upgraded beds at Sara Vista in Elmvale;
• 128 new beds at Victoria Village Manor in Barrie;
• 2 new and 62 upgraded beds at Grove Park Home for Senior Citizens in Barrie;
• 80 new and 112 upgraded beds at Schlegel Villages in Barrie;
• 64 new and 66 upgraded beds at IOOF Seniors Homes in Barrie;
• 47 new and 49 redeveloped beds at Stayner Care Centre;
• 40 new and 120 upgraded beds at Collingwood Nursing Home Bay Haven Joint Project in
Collingwood; and
• 34 new beds at Simcoe Manor and Village in Beeton.
The government has a plan to fix long-term care and to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve both now and in the future. The plan is built on three pillars: staffing and care; accountability, enforcement, and transparency; and building modern, safe, comfortable homes for seniors.

QUICK FACTS
▪ As of today, Ontario now has 21,717 new and 17,046 upgraded beds in the development pipeline, which means more than 72 percent of the 30,000 net new beds being delivered are in the planning, construction, and opening stages of the development process.
▪ Ontario plans to invest an additional $3.7 billion, beginning in 2024-25, on top of the historic $2.68 billion already invested, to support this new series of allocations for the development of 10,000 net new and more than 12,000 upgraded beds across the province. These historic investments would bring the total to $6.4 billion since spring 2019.
