Ontario and Nova Scotia Working Together to Advance Small Modular Reactor Development

Today, in a major step towards Canada’s clean energy future, Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines, joined Nova Scotia Premier and Minister of Energy, Tim Houston, to sign a landmark agreement to collaborate on the development of small modular reactors (SMRs). This partnership will generate clean, reliable and affordable nuclear power that strengthens Canada’s energy security and economic competitiveness.
This new partnership taps into Ontario’s global leadership and expertise in SMR technology to help drive Nova Scotia’s clean energy transition, while reinforcing Canada’s position as a world leader in cutting-edge nuclear innovation. With Ontario’s first SMR under construction at Darlington, this partnership will drive job creation, attract investment and expand Canada’s nuclear supply chain across provinces.
