Ontario is moving forward with the Bruce C Nuclear Project, Canada’s first large-scale nuclear project in over 30 years.
This nation-building project will:
- Support 18,900 good-paying jobs
- contribute $238 billion to Canada’s GDP
- add 4,800 MW of net-new power, enough electricity to power 4.8 million homes
- ensure 95 per cent of Bruce Power’s spending stays in Canada
Ontario directed the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to enter into a $300 million cost-sharing and recovery agreement, enabling Bruce Power to move forward critical activities including First Nations and community engagement, workforce planning and pre-construction and site preparation planning.
As electricity demand is projected to rise by up to 90 per cent by 2050 and jurisdictions around the world compete to secure reliable sources of power, the Ford Government is moving forward with its first-ever integrated energy plan, Energy for Generations, to ensure the province has the electricity needed to power growth and avoid future supply shortages.
Ontario’s plan to lead the largest nuclear expansion on the continent will help create up to 150,000 Canadian jobs, drive long-term economic growth and ensure Ontario families, farms and businesses have access to reliable, affordable power for generations to come.
