New Nuclear Energy Generation in Port Hope
The Ontario government has announced a major step forward in Ontario’s energy future by directing the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to advance new nuclear generation at the Wesleyville site in Port Hope.
With energy demand soaring over the next 25 years, we are planning for the future. We have the potential to deliver up to 10,000 MW of nuclear energy—enough to power 10 million homes.
This landmark investment will contribute $235 billion to Ontario’s GDP over its 95-year lifespan and support 10,500 jobs across Ontario, with local employment levels expected to be boosted by 15-20%.
With more engagement and consultation to be executed, this is part of our government’s expansion of nuclear energy, which is now underway for the first time in 30 years.
Unlike the reckless energy policies of the previous Liberal government which saddled families with skyrocketing energy bills and no long-term vision, Premier Ford is demonstrating leadership through a forward-looking plan that prioritizes affordability for Ontario families and future generations.
