Carbon Tax

The federal government announced it was pausing its carbon tax on home heating oil for three years in recognition of the serious costs the tax is imposing on hardworking Canadians. However, the federal government is refusing to remove the tax from other forms of home heating, including natural gas, which means most Ontario households will be forced to continue paying the federal carbon tax.

The government believes Ontario families and businesses deserve the same tax breaks that other Canadians receive and is pushing the federal government to treat Ontario fairly. Last week, Premier Ford wrote to the federal Liberal Party’s Ontario caucus, asking that they push their government to cut the carbon tax on all forms of home heating. In our fall economic statement, we also announced we intend to extend our gas tax cut until June 30, 2024, to help give Ontario families a break.
