Building Mines Faster to Protect Jobs and Build a More Self-Reliant Economy

The government has announced the first access to nickel ore at the Craig Mine Onaping Depth Expansion. The project continues to help our government deliver new jobs as we unlock Ontario’s critical minerals sector with the Onaping Depth Zone supporting 400 good-paying full-time jobs at full production.

We’re making historic progress on our plan to protect Ontario and secure our domestic supply chains against President Trump’s tariffs, all while creating thousands of good-paying jobs in Ontario’s mining sector. We’re building mines faster and unlocking our province’s world-class mineral wealth to attract investment and strengthen the province’s position as a secure and reliable global supplier of critical minerals. Ontario’s mineral wealth contributes over $14.4 billion to provincial GDP annually while supporting 150,000 direct and indirect jobs. We are building on that success by unlocking opportunities like the Ring of Fire, which could create more than 70,000 jobs and add $22 billion to Ontario’s economy.
