Bill 166 Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act, 2024
The Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act, 2024, has been granted Royal Assent. This legislation introduces three amendments to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Act, to ensure Ontario’s postsecondary institutions are setting our postsecondary students up for success. The amendments include:
- Requiring every college and university to have mental health policies in place that adequately describe the programs, policies, services and supports available in respect of student mental health.
- Requiring every college and university to implement policies and rules to address and combat racism and hate, including but not limited to anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism, antisemitism and Islamophobia.
- Providing the Minister of Colleges and Universities authorization to issue directives to ensure transparency in regard to the costs associated with attendance at the college or university.
Ontario is proudly putting students first, with a continued focus on efficiency, accountability, and financial sustainability in our world-class postsecondary education system.
